Budget Ideas for a Beautiful Wedding

Three Church Pew Wedding Decorations You Can Make Yourself

Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a big impact. Pew or chair decorations are one of those little things that can add a beautiful finishing touch to your ceremony decorations. The great thing is that many of these decorations are very easy to make yourself, so you can have a great look at a small cost.

The following are three ideas that are all easy to do, look great and are low cost.

Pew Bows
Tulle or ribbon bows are traditional pew decorations for weddings that always look good and are very simple to make yourself.

To make these you will need 6” tulle , craft wire, wire cutter and scissors (wired ribbon, silk flowers, hot glue gun-optional).
How to Make Tulle Pew Bows:

  • Step 1 - Cut a piece of tulle 4.5 to 5 feet long(the length will depend on how long you want the tails of the bows to be) fold in half lengthwise to find the center then hold at the center with your left hand.
  • Step 2 - Take your right hand and on the right side about 8” away from the middle fold tulle under.
  • Step 3 - Bring this to the center placing it to the back. This will form half of a bow. Hold together at the center with your right hand.
  • Step 4 - Repeat step 3 with the left side, only this time instead of bringing the tulle to the back to form the bow, bring it to the top.
  • Step 5 - You should now have a simple tulle pew bow. Secure at the center by twisting craft wire around it.

If you’d like to make your bows a little more elaborate you can hot glue a silk flower in the center of each bow, create a bow in the same way in a different color of tulle and layer them like the ones in the photo, or create a bow using wired ribbon and layer on top of the tulle bow. You could also do any combination of these.

You can either attach a long piece of craft wire, tulle or ribbon to the back for ease of hanging on the pews or chairs.

Kissing Balls
Next, how about a pretty kissing ball dangling from the pew? I found these some time ago on and fell in love with them. They are pretty, look very elegant and best of all are easy and inexpensive to make.

Would you believe they are made from crepe paper? Although this picture doesn’t show the kissing balls hanging, you can easily hang them by attaching a length of ribbon with hot glue or floral u pins.

If I were using these as wedding pew decorations, I would also make some to use as reception table centerpieces and display them as shown in the picture.

To make these you will need crepe paper streamers, scissors, hot glue gun and ribbon. You can find the complete tutorial for making these kissing balls here.

Hanging Mason Jars

This idea is just so cute and is a great way to show off simple flowers like zinnias or even more elegant flowers like roses.

For a casual look, you could buy the mixed flower bouquets that are available in grocery stores the day before your wedding and take them to the ceremony location and go ahead and add water to the jars and place the flowers in them so they are ready to go the next day.

You could also add a little more color by tying a ribbon around the jar.

These mason jar decorations could also do double duty by serving as table centerpieces for your reception. Place this jar in the center of your table and add some smaller jars containing votive candles around this one creating a unique display for very little money.

To make these you will need mason jars, wire and needle nose pliers. You can find a tutorial for making the hangers for the jars here.

I hope these easy DIY pew decorating ideas help you make the seating at your wedding ceremony an eye catching accent that adds to the beauty of your day. If you like these ideas let us know in the comments below, or share your ideas with us.
